The Nairobi Peace Ambassadors caravan was organized by Integrated Initiatives for Community Empowerment (IICEP) which has been conducting CVE programs in the informal settlements of Nairobi in partnership with the United States Embassy in Kenya for the last one year.

The event brought together various stakeholders including representatives of the Civil Society Organizations (CSO), Nairobi County, IICEP’s peace ambassadors, the Kamukunji Sub-County officials, and the US Embassy Outreach Coordinator Public Affairs Section, among others. In attendance were 257 participants, including 191 (107 female 84 male) youth and 66 elders (48 female 18 male).

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has partnered with the public transport operators to rally Kenyans to a peaceful electoral process ahead of the August 8th General Elections.

Through targeted messaging, the Matatu Welfare Association (MWA) will work with operators of at least 12,500 public service vehicles to campaign for peaceful polls.

While speaking at the event, MWA chairman Dickson Mbugua reiterated that drivers, conductors and touts will play significant roles in running the campaign to unite Kenyans. The NCIC Chairperson, Hon. Francis Xavier Kaparo, on his part, emphasized on the need of politicians to accept the outcome of elections and concede defeat peacefully. “Kenya must not die because you have died politically, die alone,” said Hon. Kaparo. “There is life after politics. I have lost three times and I have not died. Your political demise is a personal issue, it’s not a national problem,” He added.

Attended by hundreds of matatu Sacco officials from across the country, the campaign dubbed “I am for peace” was launched on 12th May 2017 at the Nairobi Safari Club Hotel.
