Following a recent conflict between the Maasai’s and Kipsigis in Narok County that led to displacement of people and loss of lives, the Commission undertook various initiatives to identify existing gaps limiting the attainment of peace and propose measures to address the gaps.

The Commission in collaboration with USAID through FHI 360 and the Anglican Development Service (ADS) partnered in a month long program to facilitate inter-communal dialogues involving representatives from various communities within Narok County. The partnership aimed at fostering peace and finding lasting solutions to the root causes of the conflict in the region.

During the meetings with religious leaders, security personnel, elders, women and youths from the Maasai, Kipsigis, Ogiek and Nandi, communities identified land conflicts, cattle thefts, political interference, destructions and theft of crops as the main drivers of conflict between the communities.

They conducted trainings that targeted peace committee members, elders, youths and women. The training was aimed at promoting inter-communal cohesion and reconciliation

The Commission was represented by the Chairman Samuel Kobia, Commissioner Sam Kona, Commissioner Hon. Dorcas Kedogo, Commissioner Wambui Nyutu, OGW, Acting CEO Ms. Millicent Okatch, Assistant Director Peace Building and Reconciliation, Mr. Liban Guyo, Ms. Elvi Agunda and Ms. Regina Mutiru
