Over 200 scouts and scouters – young people and adults from 38 countries in Sub Saharan Africa and beyond converged in Kampala, Uganda for the 7th Africa Scout Youth Forum and the 16th Africa Scout Conference held from 24th to 28th August and from 28 August to 1st September respectively.

The Africa Scout Conference (ASC) is the governing organ of the Africa Scout Region. Member organizations consider global policy and standards of the Scout Movement, formulate general policies and take action required to further the purpose of the Movement in the region.

The Africa Scout Conference and the Africa Scout Youth forum take place every three years in different countries. The joint theme of the 16th ASC and 7th ASYF was “SCOUTING: Africa’s leading social force for youth empowerment.”

For four days, Scouts aged between 18 and 26 years had an opportunity of living and working in a multicultural environment, learning each other’s cultures, faiths and beliefs, taking part in educative discussions and global issues. It was a non-formal education and leadership development opportunity for participants. The adults met over a similar period to deliberate on policies, develop plans and give general guidance and direction for the Scout movement in Africa.

Key guests at the events included African Heads of States and Governments, scouting leaders from the world, Africa region and national levels as well as global and regional partners. H. E. Jerry Rawlings, former President of the Republic of Ghana delivered the keynote address. 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the Africa Scout Foundation.
