The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is instituting public engagement in various Counties to promote peaceful coexistence and social cohesion amongst Kenyans as we approach the 2022 General Elections. The Commission will conduct community sensitization forums towards countering electoral violence and political intolerance targeting journalists and bloggers, local peace actors, youth and public transport operators in Kisumu County from 26th to 29th January, 2021. In attendance will be NCIC Commissioners, Kisumu County Commissioner, Deputy County Commissioners among other stakeholders.

Kenya is preparing for her General Elections scheduled for August 2022. As such, elections in Kenya continue to face numerous challenges that threaten the fragile social cohesion fabric. These include political conflicts, social revolts, ethnic rivalries and opportunistic crime among others. Consequently, loss of lives, property and internal displacement of persons. There are concerns that the 2022 General Elections if not well handled, will be conducted in a polarized atmosphere amongst the citizens. The pre-election phase has already started with alignments and re-alignments taking place in the political sphere. It is therefore vital to establish strategies and put in place measures to secure a peaceful electoral process from this phase through to the post-election period.
