On Saturday 14th November 2020, Turkana and Pokot communities came together for a Peace meeting in Kapedo. Political leaders from Turkana, West Pokot and Baringo were present in the meeting where they all shared similar messages of promoting peaceful coexistence between the two communities.

Commissioner Danvas Makori congratulated the leaders present on the steps they have taken to foster peace in the region, he also told them to continue engaging in peace meetings with their communities. Commissioner Hon. Abdulaziz Farah urged the communities to embrace peace and work towards getting peace from the community level as the locals are the ones who suffer more whenever there is insecurity. On the other hand, Commissioner Hon. Dorcas Kedogo urged the locals to heed what their leaders had told them and keep on working towards having lasting peace in their localities, she also stressed that leaders should always be using words that bring their communities together and not breaking them apart.

NCIC Commissioners also witnessed Turkana East MP Hon. Ali Lokiru and Tiaty MP Hon. William Kamket come together and shake hands as a sign of promise to work together to stop the perennial conflicts that have been experienced in the area. The peace meeting was led by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mr. George Natembeya.

After the peace meeting in Kapedo, NCIC Commissioners Hon. Kedogo and Hon. Farah joined Hon. Kamket for a follow up peace meeting with Pokot community in Ameyan Market on Sunday 15th November 2020. During the meeting, Commissioner Hon. Kedogo urged the locals to stop engaging in illicit drinks but engage in other practices that will uplift and develop the community, she also told the community to start going to churches as this is one of the ways constant conflict will stop since religious teachings are against killing of each other or even theft.

Commissioner Hon. Abdulaziz on the other hand urged the community to enroll their children in schools so they can be engaged in better and beneficial careers and businesses in the future and not continue with the practice of cattle rustling for survival.
