Kenya continues to face many challenges that are a threat to the country’s social cohesion and national unity. To further understand the challenges facing citizens across the country and find lasting solutions to the problems, the Commission held a four-day forum with various stakeholders in Kapsabet, Nandi County on 26^th to 30^th October, 2020. The Commission, represented by Commissioner Eng. Philip Okundi and Commissioner Dorcas Kedogo engaged with Journalists and bloggers, Youth, Local Peace Actors and Boda boda and Matatu Operators. The stakeholders highlighted various issues that cause conflict in Nandi County, key among them being: boundary conflicts, resource conflicts, political intolerance, ethnic divisions as well as corruption. The forums were engaging and insightful and the Commission with the help of the participants agreed to consistently pursue solutions to the challenges and reinforce peace messages to ensure communities in Kapsabet live harmoniously. Commissioner Okundi reiterated the need to have more organisations engage in similar public engagements as it would ensure collaborative efforts towards achieving peace across the country. Further, Commissioner Kedogo urged each participant at the forum to play their role in peace building and conflict resolution in their communities since achieving harmonious coexistence entails both collective and individual efforts. The Commission will continue to hold similar stakeholder forums across the country to address the various drivers of conflicts in different counties and promote peace and cohesion in the nation.
