Elders from Samburu, Rendille and Turkana communities and NCIC representatives during a peace and reconciliation dialogue forum held by the Commission in Sarima, Marsabit County on March 25, 2018
The Commission, through Peace Building and Reconciliation department (PBR), held a peace and reconciliation dialogue forum successfully reconciling residents from Samburu, Rendille and Turkana communities. The meeting held on 25th March 2018 in Sarima, Marsabit County, aimed at promoting harmonious coexistence among the three communities to ward off violent skirmishes.
Laisamis Sub-county has experienced perennial inter-ethnic conflicts between Samburu, Turkana and Rendille communities. A recent attack on a Rendille herdsman sparked tensions between the inhabitants of this dry season grazing area, necessitating dialogue.
The dialogue forum was facilitated by Peace Building and Reconciliation department Assistant Director Mr. Liban Guyo, who encouraged the elders from the three communities to actively participate in key matters concerning their county to enhance equity, equality and peaceful coexistence.
The dialogue forum was honoured by Laisamis Member of Parliament, Hon. Arbele Musa, Moyale Member of Parliament, Hon. Qalicha Gufu, Marsabit County Senator, Hon. Godanna Hargura and Marsabit County Governor, Hon. Mohammed Mahmud Ali.
