Narok County

Narok County

Narok County is made up of 6 sub-counties namely, Kilgoris, Narok North, Narok South, Narok East, Narok West and Emurua Dikirr. Some of the key peace and cohesion challenges in the County is the conflict over the Mau Forest Complex, cattle rustling and conflict over grazing and farm lands involving the Masaai, Kalenjin and the Kuria Communities. The Commission supported the establishment of Amani clubs in 2016 in order to promote peace and cohesion in the schools and the neighbouring communities.

Amani Clubs Activities

Community Service and Volunteerism-Taking part in peace through service and volunteer projects fosters a culture of altruism and inclusiveness among the young people and therefore inculcating the right values and attitudes. Amani clubs in the county have been undertaking charity work, donations, and town and hospital cleanups.

Peace Gardens/Walls/Corners-Peace gardens, walls and corners play a key role in reminding learners and the school community at large on the importance of peaceful coexistence through peace and cohesion messaging. Schools with Amani clubs have established peace corners and gardens in the school where the club holds its meetings and discuss issues of peace as well as resolve conflicts.

Peace Debates/Discussions/Dialogues-Peace debates and discussions bring together Amani club members to discuss and debate topical issues with an aim of promoting a peaceful, united, harmonious and integrated Kenyan society. The Amani club members of Olpusimoru Secondary School in 2017 organized an institutional debate on issues that affects national cohesion and integration.

Tree Planting-Amani club members protect and improve their environment by establishing tree nurseries, cleaning their surroundings and undertaking beautification projects. This activity helps  to reduce resource based conflicts that may also occur within the community
