Kisii County
Kisii County comprises of nine sub-counties namely, Kitutu Chache North, Kitutu Chache, Nyaribari Masaba, Nyaribari Chache, Bomachoge Borabu, Bomachoge Chache, Bobasi, South Mugirango and Bonchari. The county has 1462 registered schools 1102 being primary schools, 360 secondary schools and 36 tertiary institutions. One key peace and cohesion challenge in the county has been the recurring border disputes between the Kisii and Kipsigis communities along the Narok-Kisii border. The Commission established Amani clubs in the county in 2017 and since then several peace and cohesion related activities have been conducted.
Amani Club Activities
Peace Debates, Dialogues and Discussions-Peace debates and discussions bring together Amani club members from all over the country to participate and engage in conferences, where they debate or negotiate and try to resolve the most difficult and pressing challenges in achieving a peaceful, united, harmonious and integrated Kenyan society. The following schools whose members have actively taken part in these peace discussions are Kenyoro Secondary School and St.Angela Sengera Girls High School
Intra-school activities- Schools with Amani clubs have held several inter school activities to promote peace and cohesion. Some of the schools that have been very active include; St.Angela Sengera Girls High School club members have carried out sensitization forums on Amani Clubs, carried out discussions on peace and drug substance abuse within the school resulting to increased membership, made presentations on Parents’ Day and carried out school cleanups, Matagaro Secondary, Gesere D.E.B Primary School, Kenyoro Secondary School, Ichuni Secondary School, Sameta Boys High School, Kisii High School have carried out school cleanups, Nyakungu D.O.K Primary and Moi Gesusu High School members carried out a sensitization forum on Amani clubs, made presentations in assemblies to the rest of the school and posted peace messages, St. Paul’s Amasabo School members put up a suggestion box to handle students’ inquiries and Nyamagwa SDA School formed a club choir and planted flowers in the school for beautification. Other Key activities by Amani club members include, community Service and Volunteerism, celebration of International Day of Peace, establishment of peace corners, walls and gardens, peace walks and caravans and tree planting activities.
