Tharaka Nithi County

Tharaka Nithi County has four (4) sub counties namely Tharaka North, Tharaka South, Meru South and Maara. The County faces challenges to peace such as ethnic conflicts, Cross Border Conflict and disaster management challenges. The Commission established Amani clubs in the County in 2016 to promote peace and cohesion among students in the schools and also the community at large. Over the period Amani clubs in the county have undertaken diverse peace and cohesion related activities.

Establishment of Peace Garden- Amani clubs in the many schools in this county have established a conflict triangle which is utilized by students to analyze and resolve conflict by focusing of the key aspects of a conflict which include: context, attitudes, and behavior. Kiereni High School have on several occasions used the conflict triangle to solve many conflicts among students.

 

Cultural and Talent Day Performances- Cultural performances promote intercultural understanding, tolerance and consequently respect and appreciation of diversity. It is in view of this that Amani club members in different schools have set aside specific days to celebrate culture and talents among students. These performances have gone a long way in promoting peaceful coexistence and cohesion in schools and the neibouring communities. Other key activities undertaken by the Amani clubs include; cleaning of public facilities, tree planting, and participation in marking international days.
