Monitoring the Political Party Primaries

The Commission, through the County Cohesion Monitors took part in the observation and monitoring of the just concluded political party primaries that were held from 21st to 30th of April, 2017. It was observed that the primaries were generally peaceful and were conducted in accordance with the party’s by-laws and Election Laws (Amendment Bill) 2016. The Commission observed and commends the swift responses that were put in place by several stakeholders to address the issues of irregularities that emerged.

However, it was not a smooth affair in all the areas. The Commission’s assessment also gives an highlight of heightened political intolerance observed in the following counties; Uasin Gishu, Nairobi, Kisumu, Busia, Kakamega, Mombasa, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Nakuru and Siaya. As a result, the Commission is planning to work with all relevant authorities to develop appropriate strategies that will prevent political tensions in these areas during the General Elections.
