Public Forum: CVE Awareness in Mombasa County

The Commission in partnership with National Counter Terrorism Centre Kenya and the UNDP organized two public forums targeting women and youth on countering violent extremism. The events were held at Pride Inn Hotel, Mombasa on 5th and 6th June, 2017.

Themed “Strengthening community resilience against radicalization and violent extremism in Mombasa County”, the fora drew women and youth leaders from all over the six sub-counties, including university students, and peace committees’ representatives. It was noted that the existing County Action plan on CVE consisted of economic, faith, political, social media, women, youth and security pillars that were seen to reinforce community relations with the law enforcement agencies.

It was resolved that there was need for parents to monitor the behavior and movements of their children, support girl child education and constantly engage young people in finding solutions to violent extremism. Women were also urged to take up active roles in countering violent extremism as they are most affected by conflicts.
