The women, catalysts for peace in Kenya~ NCIC
“The women play a vital role in the society as they hold homes and communities together,” NCIC Vice-chairperson, Commissioner Irene Wanyoike. Speaking at a meeting with Muslim and Christian women leaders in Kilifi County on 13th January 2016, she acknowledged the significant role played women in peace building and urged them to instill national values in children to help cultivate harmony and peace in the country. Some of the issues identified as threats to peace were; high levels of unemployment among the youth, poverty and violence in the families.
Accompanying the Vice-Chairperson were Commissioner Morris Dzoro and Commissioner Adan Mohammed, who also acknowledged the role of women in peace building and pledged NCIC’s support to programs that promote the participation of women in peace building.
