The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) condemns in the strongest terms possible the terrorist attack at Garissa University College on Thursday, 2nd April 2015.

As we mourn the loss of over 148 innocent lives, let us resist the temptation of being divided on religious and ethnic lines. The perpetrators of this crime will be happy to see Kenyans turn against each other. We must not fall into their evil plans.

The Commission sends its condolences to the families and friends of the innocent Kenyans who lost their lives following the heinous act of cowardice.

NCIC appeals for tolerance between various segments of our country, particularly our diverse religious groups. We are asking all Kenyans to be united and seek refuge in the wise message of our national anthem.

We pray for the speedy recovery of all those who were injured. The Commission wishes to appeal to all Kenyans to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in protecting our beloved country. We urge you to use social media responsibly and positively during this time and beyond. Social media users must avoid sending false alarm and hate speech messages that could further polarize the country. As Kenyans, let us strive to build a united, peaceful and prosperous nation.

Francis Xavier ole Kaparo, EGH SS
