The National Cohesion and Integration Commission Chairman Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia CBS led the Commission Secretary, Directors and Deputy Directors in the signing of performance contracts for the financial year 2023/2024. The event held on 24th September 2023 at the Commission’s main boardroom marked a significant step towards fostering accountability, growth, and transformative change in Kenya’s peace and cohesion.

Noting the importance of Performance Contracting (PC) the Chairman said that the PC is a necessity in Government Public Service. He said, “PC is likened to getting into a covenant that is binding and calls for accountability.” Rev. Kobia emphasized on the collective responsibility to leverage on the available resources in ensuring quality effective and efficient service delivery to Kenyans. He emphasized on the need of taking the PC seriously. “Our task is clear – to pull these resources sustainably and responsibly, ensuring that the peace and cohesion are felt by all Kenyans,” he said.

Addressing the same meeting the Commission Secretary Mr. Harrison Kariuki emphasized that the signed performance contracts demonstrate the Commission’s commitment to realizing ambitious but achievable objectives. The goals for the upcoming financial year encompass bolstering mediation and dialogues management of hate speech and ethnic contempt, research and knowledge management and enhancing peace and cohesion.

Collaboration was highlighted as a key factor in achieving these objectives. The Commission Secretary stressed the importance of working closely with stakeholders, local communities, and development partners to ensure a holistic and sustainable approach.

The Deputy Director Human Resource and Administration Ms. Caroline Gateru informed the Head of Departments that the Performance contract will be cascaded to ensure every employee plays a role towards the enhancement of the Commission’s mandate. Hence the department was finalizing the digitization of the PAS to ensure effective and efficient service.
